Using the Setup Assistant
The setup assistant is your first point of contact with any new Kentix device and guides you through the basic configuration. Depending on the device type, up to six steps are completed, enabling a complete initial setup.
Prerequisites
- A new, unconfigured Kentix device
- Access to the device's web interface via a browser
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Welcome
In the first step of the setup assistant, you receive general information and links to KentixONE and the online service. This welcome screen provides you with initial orientation about available resources and documentation.
2. Basic Settings
In this step, you configure the basic system parameters:
- Language: Select the preferred language for the user interface
- Time Zone: Set the correct time zone for your device
- Temperature Unit: Choose between Celsius and Fahrenheit
A correct time zone setting is important for proper logging and timestamps in system messages.
3. BLE Mode
This step is only available for MultiSensor-LAN (BLE) and MultiSensor-TI (BLE).
Here you can select which wireless components should be added via the MultiSensor:
- Access: Enables adding DoorLocks when the device is operated in Satellite-Device mode
- Monitoring: Enables adding MultiSensor (wireless BLE) when the device is operated in Satellite-Device mode
This selection cannot be changed later in the interface! It can only be selected during initial setup!
After clicking "Next", the wireless module will be initialized. This process may take a few seconds.
4. Network Settings
Configure your device's network parameters:
- Enable DHCP: Allow automatic assignment of IP address and subnet mask
- Static IP: Specify a fixed IP address and subnet mask if needed
Make sure the chosen IP address is available in your network and won't cause conflicts.
5. DoorLock Version
This step is only available for AccessManager (Bus).
Select the appropriate DoorLock generation for your system:
- V1: All devices without marking and RackLocks (purchase date before 04.2023)
- V2: All devices with "V2" marking (purchase date from 04.2023)
The correct version selection is important for compatibility and proper function of connected DoorLocks.
6. Operation Mode
This step is skipped for SiteManagers as they can currently only be operated in main mode.
Configure your device's operation mode:
6.1 Main-Device
The device becomes the main device of a system to which other devices can be added.
6.2 Satellite-Device
The device is subordinate to a Main-Device. This selection requires the following inputs:
- Main Address: The IP address or hostname of the main device
- Communication Key: A shared key for encrypted communication between main and satellite devices
The communication key must be identical on both devices as communication between main and satellite devices is encrypted by default.
7. Create Administrator
This step is mandatory for all devices.
Create an administrator user for system access:
- Username: Choose a unique administrator name
- Password: Assign a secure password
- Confirm Password: Repeat the password for confirmation
Use a strong password combining uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
Once the satellite has been successfully added to the main and synchronized, the main overwrites the local admin on all satellites.
Click "Finish" to complete the setup process.
8. Completion
Congratulations! You have successfully completed the setup of your Kentix device.
After a short wait, you will be automatically redirected to the login screen:
- For a Main-Device: to this device's login screen
- For a Satellite-Device: to the Main-Device's login screen
You can now log in with the created administrator credentials and continue with the configuration of your system.
