Main Device & Satellites

This guide will walk you step by step through the initial setup of a Kentix system. It covers preparation, setting up the main device (SiteManager), adding SmartMonitoring and SmartAccess satellites, and teaching-in a wireless doorlock.

Preparation and Requirements

  • Central management via a SiteManager (hardware) or as Docker container on your own servers.
  • A stable network is essential. Each device must be reachable throughout the entire setup.
  • Define the IP address concept in advance (which device gets which IP?).
  • All Kentix devices must have the same firmware version. Different versions prevent adding satellites to the main device.

Factory IP Addresses (Excerpt)

DeviceFactory IP
SiteManager192.168.100.222
Multisensors (SmartMonitoring, Ethernet)192.168.100.223
AccessManager Wireless and Bus (SmartAccess)192.168.100.224
Power Manager192.168.100.225
SmartPDU192.168.100.226
warning

Make sure your PC for initial setup is in the same network as the respective device (or appropriate routing/firewall access exists).

1. Setting up the Main Device (SiteManager)

  1. Connect SiteManager to power and network according to instructions.
  2. Open web interface in browser using factory IP. Verify your PC is on the same network.
  3. Complete the setup wizard:
  • Select language, timezone and temperature units.
  • Configure network settings.
  • For DHCP, set a static fallback address that differs from the DHCP-assigned address.
  • Create admin user.
  • Complete wizard.
  1. Then access the newly assigned IP to reach the KentixONE login page.

2. Prepare and Set Up Satellites

2.1 SmartMonitoring – Multisensor (Ethernet)

  1. Connect Multisensor to network via PoE according to instructions.
  2. Open web interface of the Multisensor using factory IP.
  3. Complete setup wizard:
  • Select language, timezone, temperature unit.
  • Configure wireless settings of the Multisensor.
  • Note: This setting cannot be changed later via interface. Changes only possible by resetting device.
  • Configure network settings.
  • For DHCP, set a static fallback address that differs from the DHCP address.
  • Select operating mode: Choose "Satellite" and enter your SiteManager's IP under "Main Address".
  • Create local admin for initial setup.
  • Complete wizard.
info

Once the Multisensor is successfully added to main and synchronized, the main overwrites the local admin on all satellites.

2.2 SmartAccess – AccessManager

  1. Connect AccessManager to network via PoE according to instructions.
  2. Open web interface of AccessManager using factory IP.
  3. Complete setup wizard:
  • Select language, timezone, temperature unit.
  • Configure network settings.
  • For DHCP, set a static fallback address that differs from DHCP address.
  • Select operating mode "Satellite" and enter your SiteManager's IP under "Main Address".
  • Create local admin for initial setup.
  • Complete wizard.
info

This step only applies to AccessManager (Bus).

  • V1: All devices without marking and RackLocks (purchase date before 04.2023)
  • V2: All devices with "V2" marking (purchase date from 04.2023)

3. Adding Satellites to Main

3.1 Requirements

  • Log into KentixONE and open Detail View. Devices are added centrally there.
  • Initial setup wizard must be completed for Multisensors (Ethernet) and AccessManager.
  • Firmware version of main and satellite must be identical.
  • Wireless Multisensors (ROOM, DOOR etc.) must be within wireless range of an Ethernet Multisensor set to wireless mode "Monitoring". Insert battery.

3.2 Adding Multisensor (Ethernet)

  1. Click "Add Device" in top right of Detail View.
  2. Select "Multisensor (Ethernet)".
  3. Enter IP address and desired name of Multisensor.
  4. Click "Add".
  5. Complete configuration in KentixONE and mount sensor at target location.

3.3 Adding Multisensor (Wireless)

  1. Click "Add Device" in top right of Detail View.
  2. Select "Multisensor (Wireless)".
  3. Select correct host unit.
  4. Press button on sensor for 3-5 seconds until a long beep sounds.
  5. Click "Add" and follow instructions in KentixONE.
  6. Complete configuration and mount sensor at target location.
tip

Calibrate Multisensors after at least 30 minutes at target location and adjust offset in KentixONE if needed.

3.4 Adding AccessManager (BUS/Wireless)

  1. Click "Add Device" in top right of Detail View.
  2. Select "AccessManager".
  3. Enter IP address and desired name of Multisensor.
  4. Click "Add".
  5. Complete configuration in KentixONE and mount sensor at target location.

4. Adding Wireless Doorlock to KentixONE

4.1 Requirements

  • Verify Doorlock and AccessManager use same wireless standard (BLE ↔ BLE, 868 MHz ↔ 868 MHz). Mixed operation not possible.
  • Log into KentixONE and open Detail View.
  • Ensure Doorlock is within wireless range of AccessManager.
  • Position Doorlock as close as possible to AccessManager for teach-in process (do not install yet). Range is reduced during teach-in.
  • Have master card set ready.
  • Insert/activate battery.

4.2 Prepare Doorlock

  1. Teach-in master card set at Doorlock according to instructions.
tip

4.3 Add Doorlock

  1. Click "Add Device" in top right of Detail View.
  2. Select "Door Knob (Wireless)".
  3. Select correct host unit.
  4. Bring Doorlock as close as possible to AccessManager and hold still.
  5. Click "Add".
  6. Hold previously taught-in Service Key to Doorlock to enter programming mode.
  7. Follow instructions in KentixONE.
  8. Complete configuration in KentixONE and mount Doorlock at target location.
tip

Perform a function test after each device integration (access check, alarm/status messages) before final mounting.

Troubleshooting – Checklist

  • Are all devices reachable via network? IP concept verified?
  • Do firmware versions of main and satellites match?
  • Was correct wireless mode configured (esp. Multisensors/AccessManager/Doorlock)?
  • Was a different static fallback address set for DHCP?
  • Is wireless sensor within sufficient range during teach-in? Battery inserted?
  • Was correct host selected when adding?
danger

If a satellite cannot be added, it's often due to different firmware versions or incorrect wireless/network settings. Check these points first.
