Preparations
- Check release notes/device notes; provide appropriate firmware packages and licenses.
- Define network and power topology:
- PoE/power supply, IP addressing, VLAN concept, wireless/bus (BLE, 868 MHz).
- Ensure construction site requirements:
- Communication options available; Support availability known; pre-register booked support assistance.
- TeamViewer installed on commissioning PC; access to software updates available; cloud licenses activated (if needed).
- On-site conditions and technical documentation/floor plans are available.
- Requirements specification for needed functionality exists.
- Knowledge and resources:
- Familiar with software and hardware; required skill level (electrical engineering, network, mechanics) available or specialists contracted.
- Components and tests:
- All required components complete and functional; special technical configurations pre-built and tested.
- Customer network:
- Fully functional; for VLANs: pre-configured, ports/VLAN assignments known.
- Firewalls: Port 443 inbound and outbound open or rules exist; all devices reachable.
- Manageable PoE switches ideal; access credentials available.
- Available IP addresses and network parameters (netmask, gateway) defined; required passwords/access known.
- External services prepared: Email/SMTP, LDAP/AD, VDS etc. Access credentials available.
- KentixONE central unit (SiteManager or Docker) installed first; internet access available; KentixONE license installed/activated.
- Software versions: Keep all devices (central and satellites) at identical software version.
- Sub-minor updates (e.g. 8.5.x) perform right after adding in KentixONE.
- Minor updates (e.g. 8.x.x) perform directly on device before adding.
- Communication key: Set the key configured in central unit in the satellites.
- Wireless planning: Perform range/coverage test before mounting; aim for RSSI > -85 dBm.
- Check RSSI in KentixONE (multiple bookings/transmission cycles); test with original components; test mounting direction.
Checklist Steps
1. Preparation and Planning
- Check release notes and compatibility (devices/firmware/licenses)
- Provide/assign firmware packages and licenses
- Define power/network topology (PoE, IP, VLAN, wireless/bus)
- Plan support channels (hotlines, booked assistance registered)
- Commissioning PC prepared (TeamViewer, update access)
- Documentation/requirements spec/floor plans complete
- Skill set/specialists clarified
2. Network and Infrastructure
- Customer network available and tested
- VLANs pre-configured, port assignments documented
- Firewall rules verified (Port 443 in/out, devices reachable)
- Manageable PoE switches available; access data known
- IP plan created (addresses, netmask, gateway, hostnames)
3. Device Preparation
- Components inventoried and function tested
- Special configurations built and verified in advance
- Uniform software version defined for all devices
4. Installation and Setup of Central Unit (always first)
- KentixONE central unit (SiteManager or Docker) installed and configured
- Internet access of central unit verified
- KentixONE license installed and activated
5. Prepare Satellites
- Set communication key in installation wizard (according to central unit)
- Align firmware versions:
- Sub-minor (e.g. 8.5.x) updates right after adding in KentixONE
- Minor (e.g. 8.x.x) updates directly on device before adding
- Add and configure satellite in central unit
6. Wireless Components (BLE/868 MHz)
- Perform range/coverage test before final installation
- Check RSSI values in KentixONE (> -85 dBm)
- Measure multiple bookings/transmission cycles
- Test mounting direction with original components
7. Installation and Labeling
- Observe safety and environmental conditions (ESD, protection class, temperature/humidity)
- Verify power supply
- Label all connections and addresses clearly
8. Initial Configuration
- Structured initial configuration of devices in KentixONE
- Implement parameters according to requirements spec
- Set up communication paths to external services (SMTP, LDAP/AD, VDS)
9. Tests and Verification
- Perform function and tamper tests
- Verify alarm paths (signaling, escalation)
- Check and secure log/backup
10. Handover to Operations/Monitoring
- Logging completed; backup created
- Handover incl. IP plan, access data, documentation
- Monitoring activated; declare system operational after verified alarm paths
11. External Services
- SMTP: Server/Port/StartTLS/Authentication method tested
- LDAP/AD: Base DN/Bind User/Filter tested
- VDS/other: Endpoint/Token verified
tip
Keep all decisions and measurement results (e.g. RSSI, ports, VLANs) in this checklist or project protocol. This facilitates later maintenance and support.
