SMS
In the SMS section, you configure the sending of SMS messages via the integrated cellular modem. Alert notifications for KentixONE events and the SMS gateway for external applications can be activated independently.
A functional cellular connection with an inserted and operational SIM card is required for sending SMS messages.
Alert Notifications
In this section, you define whether users should be informed of alerts and warnings via SMS.
Enable SMS Notifications
Enables the sending of SMS notifications for alarm events within KentixONE.
To receive SMS messages, a user must meet the following requirements:
- A cellular connection is active.
- A mobile phone number is stored in the user profile.
- The user has been assigned an appropriate notification profile.
- SMS notifications are enabled in the notification profile.
Activating SMS notifications alone is not enough. The user and notification configuration must also be set up correctly.
SMS Limit
The SMS limit defines the maximum number of alert SMS messages that can be sent per hour.
The limit is designed to prevent an uncontrolled flood of SMS messages in case of malfunctions or misconfigurations.
Example:
- Configured limit: 100 SMS per hour
- SMS already sent: 99
If an alarm occurs that requires notifying 6 users simultaneously, all 6 SMS messages will be sent.
In this case, a total of 105 SMS messages are sent, exceeding the configured limit.
Subsequently, no further alert SMS messages will be sent until the end of the current time window.
The limit is deliberately considered only after a complete alert notification has been completed. This ensures that not just some of the affected users are notified during an alarm.
SMS messages sent via the SMS gateway are not counted towards the alert SMS limit.
Usage
The Usage section displays the current SMS usage within the ongoing time window.
Additionally, it shows when the SMS counter was last reset.
This information helps analyze alert events and monitor SMS consumption.
SMS Gateway
The SMS gateway enables the sending of SMS messages from external applications via the KentixONE system.
Once activated, KentixONE provides an interface through which SMS messages can be sent via HTTP requests.
Enable SMS Gateway
Activates the SMS gateway function.
After activation, external systems can send SMS messages via the configured GSM modem.
Password
Defines the password for accessing the SMS gateway.
The password must be included with every request to the SMS gateway.
Use a secure password to prevent unauthorized sending of SMS messages.
How the SMS Gateway Works
The SMS gateway functions as in previous versions of KentixONE.
External systems can send HTTP requests to KentixONE to send SMS messages.
The following information, among others, can be transmitted:
- Recipient
- Message text
- Alarm ID
- Retry attempts
- Authentication data
The configuration page includes example requests for implementation and commissioning.
The SMS gateway is particularly suitable for integrating third-party applications, scripts, or automation systems that need to send SMS messages via the cellular modem configured in KentixONE.

Alert notifications and the SMS gateway can operate simultaneously and do not affect each other.
Requirements
The following requirements must be fulfilled to operate SMS notifications or the SMS gateway:
- Cellular connection activated
- Functional SIM card inserted
- Successful registration in the cellular network
- Sufficient signal strength
- SMS sending supported by the cellular provider
Without a registered SIM card and active cellular connection, neither alert SMS notifications nor SMS messages via the SMS gateway can be sent.
