General

In the General section, you configure the GSM functionality of your system. Here, you can activate the mobile connection, manage PIN settings, restart the GSM modem, and detect a newly inserted SIM card. Additionally, extensive information about the SIM card, the mobile network, and the modem hardware is provided.

info

Compared to earlier versions, significantly more diagnostic and status information is displayed, simplifying troubleshooting.

Mobile Connection

This section covers the basic settings of the mobile connection.

Mobile Connection Enabled

Enables or disables the mobile functionality of the system.

If this function is disabled, neither SMS services nor mobile data connections are used.

note

After changes, the configuration must be saved for the settings to take effect.

PIN Protection

This function allows you to manage the PIN protection of the inserted SIM card.

Depending on the SIM card, the PIN query can be enabled or disabled.

warning

Keep the PIN of the inserted SIM card secure. A misconfigured PIN can render the SIM card unusable.

Enter PIN

If the SIM card is protected by a PIN, it can be entered here.

After a successful entry, the SIM card is unlocked, and the mobile connection can be established.

Change PIN

Allows you to change the PIN of the inserted SIM card.

The currently valid PIN is required for the change.

Restart Modem

Restarts the GSM modem.

This may be useful:

  • after changing the SIM card
  • after modifying the mobile configuration
  • in case of connection issues
  • for troubleshooting
tip

If a connection to the mobile network cannot be established, restarting the modem often resolves the issue.

Detect SIM Card

This function manually starts the detection of a newly inserted SIM card.

This allows a SIM card to be read without restarting the entire system.

info

For energy efficiency reasons, KentixONE no longer constantly checks for an inserted SIM card. After inserting or replacing a SIM card, detection must be manually started via Detect SIM Card.

Activate KentixONE SIM Card

A provided KentixONE SIM card can be activated through the displayed link.

SIM Information

The SIM Information section provides detailed information about the inserted SIM card, the mobile network, and the utilized hardware.

This information is particularly useful for diagnostics and error analysis.

Possible states include:

  • Ready
  • Connecting
  • Disconnected
  • Error

Modem Status

Displays the current status of the installed GSM modem.

  • Not Inserted

ICCID

The ICCID is the unique serial number of the inserted SIM card.

This information is often needed for support purposes or to identify a SIM card.

tip

Low signal strength can affect the reliability of SMS notifications and data connections. If necessary, the antenna position should be adjusted.

Hardware Information

The IMEI is the globally unique identifier of the mobile modem.

This number is often required for support requests.

Manufacturer

Displays the manufacturer of the installed modem.

Model

Shows the exact model designation of the installed GSM modem.

note

The hardware information is for diagnostic purposes only and cannot be changed.

Energy Optimization

Earlier versions continuously searched for an inserted SIM card. This behavior has been changed to reduce energy consumption.

This results in the following advantages:

  • Lower power consumption
  • Reduced modem load
  • More efficient system operation

After inserting a SIM card, the Detect SIM Card function must therefore be manually executed.
