SNMP Sensor

An SNMP sensor enables querying values via the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) from network devices or other SNMP-capable systems.

General

The basic settings of each device include the activation state (On/Off) as well as a name under which all alarms and warnings reported by this device are displayed. This should be chosen as uniquely descriptive as possible to be able to distinguish between devices.

Description

An optional description of the SNMP sensor for better identification and documentation of the device.

Alarm Group

By selecting the parent alarm group, the device is integrated into the system hierarchy.
Alarms are signaled in the parent alarm group.

OID

The Object Identifier (OID) defines the specific data point to be retrieved from the SNMP host. The OID is a unique identifier in the SNMP tree and determines which data is read.

tip

The OID can be specified when adding the sensor and can be modified later if needed.

Host

Selection of the SNMP host from which the data should be retrieved. The host must have been configured previously in the SNMP settings.

Alarm Delay

Alarm Delay

The alarm delay specifies how long a device should delay the signaling of an alarm after it has been detected. Example: With an alarm delay of 30s, the device waits 30 seconds before the alarm is signaled and reported.

Transmission Cycle

The transmission cycle determines the time interval at which SNMP data is retrieved from the host. The available cycles range from seconds to minutes.

Connection

Connection monitoring enables alarming when the device is not reachable.

Alarm AssignmentSelection of the alarm assignment
Output as WarningConnection loss does not trigger an alarm and is only reported as a warning.

Alarm Evaluation

The alarm evaluation differs depending on the sensor type and enables various evaluation strategies:

Min/Max Evaluation

For Min, Max, and Min/Max sensors, threshold values can be specified at which alarms or warnings are triggered. Additionally, the following parameters can be configured:

  • Unit: The unit of the retrieved measurement value (e.g., °C, %, V)
  • Conversion Factor: A factor for converting the raw SNMP value into the desired unit
  • Decimal Places: The number of displayed decimal places for the measurement value

Logic Evaluation

For logic sensors, it can be defined whether an alarm should be triggered when a result is "open" or "closed". This evaluation is suitable for binary states such as door contacts or switches.

Alarm-If Evaluation

With the Alarm-If evaluation, a list of specific values can be specified that trigger an alarm or warning. This flexible method allows responding to specific status values or error codes.

Alarm Assignment

Regardless of the evaluation type, an alarm assignment must always be selected, which determines how and to whom alarms are forwarded.
