PuE – Power Usage Effectiveness is a term which often appears in relation to data centers.
The PuE value is calculated by comparing the actual energy demand of a data center with the energy consumption of the IT infrastructure.
PUE = Data center energy demand / IT infrastructure energy demand
The theoretical best value of 1 would mean that all the energy consumed goes into the computing power of the data center.
In Germany, the average PuE value is around 1.8.
