Access

In this section, you configure security-relevant settings for access via PIN and RFID tokens. Define how PINs are handled and which RFID encryption is applied for tokens.

PIN

With the PIN, a user can authenticate themselves at SmartAccess components with an integrated keyboard. This is where you define the rules for PINs.

PIN Length

Define the required length of the user PIN. A longer PIN increases security against random guessing or simple attacks. Typical values range between 4 and 10 digits.

info

The longer the PIN, the more possible combinations exist. For instance, a 6-digit PIN has 1,000,000 combinations, while an 8-digit PIN has 100,000,000.

Access via Simple PIN Entry

Enables the option to grant access solely by entering the PIN (without an additional RFID token). This setting can be individually overridden for specific DoorLock devices.

warning

Simple PIN entry is convenient but provides a lower security level than a two-factor method (e.g., RFID + PIN). Use this option only if the desired security level permits it.

info

The DoorLock-RA4 rack lock only supports the digits 1 to 4.

RFID Settings

Kentix SmartAccess components use RFID tokens (Radio Frequency Identification) for contactless access control. By default, MIFARE® DESFire® is used. For each user account, you can define whether and with which encryption an RFID token is validated.

RFID Encryption

Determines how RFID tokens are verified by the readers:

  • Off – Only the UID (Unique Identifier) of the token is checked. This is the simplest but offers the lowest level of security, as UIDs can be read and cloned with suitable readers.
  • Kentix – In addition to the UID, a Kentix-specific encrypted area of the token is verified (default). This ensures that copying the UID alone is insufficient.
  • Custom – Custom encryption is used. A corresponding configuration file must be uploaded to KentixONE. A template can be downloaded after selecting this option.
note

Only tokens delivered by Kentix after 06/2018 contain the Kentix-specific encrypted area.

warning

Tokens with Kentix-specific encryption cannot be used simultaneously with "Custom" encryption. Choose one variant per token stock and adapt the devices accordingly.
