How to perform initial setup of main and satellite systems?
This guide walks you through the initial setup of a Kentix system step-by-step. It covers preparation, setting up the main device (SiteManager), adding SmartMonitoring and SmartAccess satellites, and pairing a wireless doorlock.
Preparations and Requirements
- Central management via a SiteManager (hardware) or as a Docker container on your own servers.
- Stable network is essential. Each device must remain accessible throughout the entire setup process.
- Decide and establish your IP addressing scheme beforehand (which device gets which IP?).
- All Kentix devices must have the same firmware version. Different versions prevent satellites from being added to the main device.

Ensure that your PC is on the same network as the respective device during the initial setup (or that appropriate routing/firewall permissions are in place).
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Setting up the main device (SiteManager)
- Connect the SiteManager to power and network as per the manual.
- Open the web interface in a browser using the factory IP. Ensure your PC is on the same network.
- Walk through the setup wizard:
- Choose language, time zone, and temperature units.
- Assign network settings.
- For DHCP, set a static fallback address distinct from the DHCP-assigned address.
- Create an admin user.
- Complete the wizard.
- Open the newly assigned IP to reach the KentixONE login page.
2. Preparing and setting up satellites
2.1 SmartMonitoring – Multisensor (Ethernet)/ Leakage Sensor (Ethernet)
- Connect the multisensor/leakage sensor to the network via PoE as per the manual.
- Open the web interface of the multisensor/leakage sensor using the factory IP.
- Walk through the setup wizard:
- Select language, time zone, and temperature unit.
- Set the wireless configuration of the multisensor.
- Note: This setting cannot be changed later via the interface. Changes only possible by resetting the device.
- Assign network settings.
- For DHCP, set a static fallback address distinct from the DHCP-assigned address.
- Choose operating mode: select "Satellite" and enter the IP of your SiteManager under "Main Address."
- Create a local admin for the initial setup.
- Complete the wizard.
Once the multisensor/leakage sensor is successfully added and synchronized with the main device, the main device overwrites the local admin on all satellites.
2.2 SmartAccess – AccessManager
- Connect the AccessManager to the network via PoE as per the manual.
- Open the web interface of the AccessManager using the factory IP.
- Walk through the setup wizard:
- Select language, time zone, and temperature unit.
- Assign network settings.
- For DHCP, set a static fallback address distinct from the DHCP-assigned address.
- Choose operating mode: "Satellite" and enter the IP of the SiteManager under "Main Address."
- Create a local admin for the initial setup.

This step applies only to AccessManager (Bus):
- V1: All devices without markings and RackLocks (purchase date before 04/2023).
- V2: All devices with "V2" marking (purchase date from 04/2023).
Once the AccessManager is successfully added and synchronized with the main device, the main device overwrites the local admin on all satellites.
2.3 SmartPDU - PDU
- Connect the PDU to the network via PoE as per the manual.
- Open the web interface of the PDU using the factory IP.
- Walk through the setup wizard:
- Select language, time zone, and temperature unit.
- Assign network settings.
- For DHCP, set a static fallback address distinct from the DHCP-assigned address.
- Choose operating mode: "Satellite" and enter the IP of your SiteManager under "Main Address."

3. Adding satellites to the main device
3.1 Prerequisites
- Log in to KentixONE and open the detail view. Devices are added centrally here.
- The initial setup wizard must be completed for Ethernet multisensors, AccessManager, and PDU.
- Firmware versions of main and satellite devices must be identical.
- Wireless multisensors (ROOM, DOOR, etc.) must be within the wireless range of an Ethernet multisensor configured to "Monitoring" wireless mode. Insert the battery.
3.2 Adding Multisensor/Leakage Sensor (Ethernet)
- Click "Add Device" in the top right corner of the detail view.
- Select "SmartMonitoring - Multisensor/Leakage Sensor (Ethernet)."
- Add host and alarm groups.
- Enter the IP address and desired name of the multisensor/leakage sensor.
- Click "Add."
- Finish configuration in KentixONE and install the sensor at the target location.
3.3 Adding Multisensor (Wireless)
- Click "Add Device" in the top right corner of the detail view.
- Select "SmartMonitoring - Multisensor (Wireless)."
- Select the correct host unit.
- Press and hold the sensor button for 3–5 seconds until a long tone is heard.
- Click "Add" and follow the instructions in KentixONE.
- Complete the configuration and install the sensor at the target location.
Calibrate multisensors at the target location for at least 30 minutes, and adjust the offset in KentixONE if necessary.
3.4 Adding AccessManager (BUS/Wireless)
- Click "Add Device" in the top right corner of the detail view.
- Select "SmartAccess - AccessManager."
- Add host and alarm groups.
- Enter the IP address and desired name of the multisensor.

Troubleshooting – Checklist
- Are all devices reachable over the network? IP scheme verified?
- Are the firmware versions of the main and satellites identical?
- Was the correct wireless configuration set (especially for multisensors/AccessManager/doorlock)?
- Was a distinct static fallback address set for DHCP?
If a satellite cannot be added, it is often due to mismatched firmware versions or incorrect wireless/network configurations. Check these points first.
